Press Release
Europe is under pressure from the energy crisis triggered by the war between Russia and Ukraine. While the crisis directly and indirectly affects national economies, it is also supporting efforts to accelerate the transition to alternative energy sources. The key question is how this environment will affect the objectives of the EU Green Deal. Looking at the goals and objectives of the Compact, the priorities given to clean energy, circular economy and digitalization will remain unchanged. The importance of waste management and all related environmental technologies will increase even more in this process.
IFAT Eurasia’s Mission is Important
IFAT Eurasia International Environmental Technologies Specialization Fair will present the solutions of the sector to the public administration and industrial units looking for new ways out under the emerging conditions. In addition to exhibiting waste management, recycling, waste-to-energy, waste-to-energy, wastewater treatment, water recycling processes and technologies that meet raw material and energy needs, it will bring together national and international stakeholders under the same roof with events where the EU Green Deal will be discussed in all aspects.
Making evaluations on behalf of IFAT Eurasia, EKO Fuarcılık Fairs Manager Namık Sarıgöl stated that IFAT Eurasia Fair, which will take place between April 27-29, 2023, will continue to offer solutions to environmental problems and said, “IFAT Eurasia 2023 will take place at a time when Europe is looking for new solutions to the energy crisis, renewable energy is gaining popularity, efficiency and savings in energy have become more important, waste management and circular economy are indispensable. In this respect, we are aware that we are undertaking a very important mission. The increasing demand for participation in the fair is an indicator of this.”
Stating that IFAT Fairs, which was organized for the first time in Germany in 1964 and is now organized 3 times in China, 2 times in India and every other year alternately in Munich and Istanbul, is the world’s most important event in this field, Namık Sarıgöl said, “Although the processes to be carried out for compliance with the EU Green Deal draw the main framework of the agenda, policies and investments that will minimize foreign dependence on energy will also be important topics in the current process. IFAT will host organizations and companies in business and technology cooperation with Europe and Europe on environmental technologies and waste management.”
Reminding that the EU aims to become the first carbon neutral continent by 2050, Sarıgöl said, “The European Green Deal aims to bring solutions to important climate issues such as global warming and sustainability of water resources. Carbon tax and Carbon Tax at the Border emerge as two important regulations. The carbon tax will also set the framework for trade and competitive conditions with the EU. The EU’s goal here is to reduce carbon emissions from international trade activities and to regulate the competitive environment through carbon taxes and to make all trade stakeholders partners in its efforts to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions.”
The Importance of Investing in Environmental Technologies Increases
Sarıgöl emphasized the importance of starting to use and develop the relevant technologies today in order to reduce the carbon footprint in all areas subject to foreign trade in Turkey and gave the following information:
“It is clear that energy-intensive sectors with high carbon emissions will be most affected by the EU Green Deal. The EU Green Deal will reshape the competitive advantage and disadvantage through carbon tax. In this case, it will become easier and advantageous for low-emitting countries to trade with the EU with tax-free or very low taxes. Countries with high emissions such as China, India and Turkey will be disadvantaged in trade with the EU as additional carbon costs will be on the agenda. In order to minimize the problems that our industrialists will face as a result of these developments and to protect and even increase our export figures, we must take measures without wasting time. The environmental technologies sector will provide the greatest assistance in this process with all its sub-branches. We invite all production units and those who plan to invest in the sector, whose importance will increase much more in the near future, to IFAT Eurasia to get to know the sector closely.”
