Climate Summit and the Growing Importance of Environmental Technologies

The 27th United Nations (UN) Climate Summit (COP27) is an important platform in the fight against global climate change.

World leaders gathered in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt on November 7 to discuss measures to tackle the climate crisis.

The summit will discuss solutions in every aspect until November 18. It is difficult to predict to what extent the outcomes of COP27 will affect the world agenda or the countries’ own agendas.

Europe is dealing with the energy crisis that emerged in the aftermath of the Russia-Ukraine war, while at the same time experiencing the worst drought in 500 years.

Floods, extreme weather movements, forest fires, threats to potable water resources, erosion of arable lands, decreased productivity in agriculture, pollution of water resources, and accelerated melting of glaciers are the consequences of global climate change. Speaking at COP27, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres drew attention to the scale of the danger. Antonio Guterres said that the world will either choose “solidarity” or “collective suicide” in the face of global warming, emphasizing that the problem is getting deeper and deeper. Underlining that humanity “must cooperate” in the face of global warming and its increasing effects, the UN Secretary-General warned that if this is not done, humanity will “disappear” and said, “We are on the highway to climate hell and our foot is still on the gas pedal. We are losing the fight of our lives,” he said, expressing his deep concern.

Environmental Technologies Play an Important Role in a Busy Agenda

While 2022 will be remembered as a year in which the pandemic lost its impact to a significant extent, it will also be remembered as a year in which the global climate change issue gained a new dimension with the effects of the energy crisis. From the same perspective, 2023 seems to be a year that will open the door to new problems for the world. Many of the problems the world faced in 2022, including the global climate crisis, will transfer the search for solutions to 2023.

“Environmental Technologies” are the key to the fight against global climate change. The solution proposals to be produced will become more and more important day by day. Ensuring access to clean and potable water with water and wastewater management, reducing environmental pollution and its effects with solid waste management, increasing secondary raw material and energy recovery, increasing recycling rates and reducing the need for raw materials and energy required in production will be realized through the work of environmental technologies sub-branches.

Demand for IFAT Eurasia is Promising for a Cleaner World

Making evaluations on behalf of IFAT Eurasia International Environmental Technologies Specialization Fair, EKO Fuarcılık Fairs Manager Namık Sarıgöl stated that IFAT Eurasia Fair, which will be held between April 27-29, 2023, will continue to offer solutions to environmental problems and said, “IFAT 2023 will take place at a time when Europe is looking for new solutions to the energy crisis, the popularity of renewable energy is increasing, and the indispensability of energy saving, waste management and circular economy is understood much more. Despite the global crises, it is clear that there can be no step back from the fight against climate change. It is imperative that all economies and companies in close relationship with Europe focus on carbon footprint targets. In a way, the emerging environment will also accelerate the transition process for the Green Deal targets. Taking all these into account, we know that the importance of the mission undertaken by IFAT Eurasia and our responsibility has increased. We are really pleased with the increasing demand for participation in the fair and the diversity of the exhibitors’ fields of activity, as well as the interest in visiting from the public and private sectors.”

The IFAT Family of Fairs is the World’s Most Important Fairs in this Field

Namık Sarıgöl stated that IFAT Fairs, which were established in Germany and organized every year in a wide geography including 3 in China, 2 in India, 1 in South Africa, and alternately in Munich and Istanbul once every 2 years, are the most important events in the world in this field and said, “IFAT brings together the environmental technologies sector with all segments that need solutions with the stakeholders it reaches through its wide geography and enormous communication network. As usual, IFAT Eurasia will host institutions, organizations and companies that are in commercial relations and technological cooperation with Europe and Europe in waste management.”
