Press Release
2023 marks a new era for the success and future of the circular economy. For many companies and public institutions around the world, the target dates for reducing carbon emissions and accelerating renewable energy investments are getting closer every day.
The years 2025 and 2030 stand out as two important dates in this regard. Many companies are already focused on 2025 in both renewable energy use, waste management and emission targets. The EU Green Deal, which aims to reduce emissions by 50-55 percent by 2030, is the most important reference for the corporate world. The competitive advantage of European companies depends heavily on their ability to meet the Green Deal targets. The targets and limitations set by the Green Deal will also be important for all countries and companies in close cooperation and trade with EU economies.
BIOMASS AND RENEWABLE ENERGY
Making evaluations on behalf of IFAT Eurasia International Environmental Technologies Specialized Fair, EKO Fuarcılık Fairs Manager Namik Sarıgöl said that the share of renewable energy sources in global energy consumption and electricity generation is increasing day by day. Emphasizing that it is an important development that the amount of energy obtained from biomass has become nearly half of the total energy obtained from renewable energy sub-branches, Sarıgöl gave the following information; “The process, in which all organic wastes can be used in addition to agricultural and animal resources specially grown for biomass, facilitates waste management planning as well as energy generation. Another way to reduce our energy need will be to increase our recycling rates. Since the number of industrial processes is reduced in production using secondary raw materials, energy savings are achieved to a great extent. The savings rate reaches 50% when using waste paper in paper production and 95% when recycling aluminum. In addition to energy gains or savings, these processes will also reduce water use and the resulting water pollution, as well as the use and import of ore for raw materials. IFAT Eurasia will provide a real opportunity to observe these technologies closely and to mutually address the needs of the circular economy.”
WILL BRING ALL STAKEHOLDERS TOGETHER
EKO Fuarcılık Fairs Manager Namık Sarıgöl said, “As a suggestion, we should say that the use of renewable energy, energy production from waste and recycling issues should be handled holistically, existing technologies should be examined with the participation of national and international stakeholders and sustainable plans should be made.
While the latest systems, tools and applications related to renewable energy and waste management will take the stage at IFAT Eurasia, which has the mission of increasing international cooperation and investment opportunities in our region, all stakeholders of the sector will seek solutions by transferring and sharing information on the problems encountered and to be encountered.”
THE MOST IMPORTANT DISCUSSION PLATFORM IN THE VALUE CHAIN
Stating that the Environmental Technologies sector is preparing for a new order, especially the Green Deal, Namık Sarıgöl said, “Water and carbon footprint monitoring, carbon tax regulations at the border are also changing production and trade processes. New approaches emerging in the value chain impose great duties and responsibilities on the environmental sector. In order to balance the need for sustainable living with the expectations of people to use and maintain the standard of living they have achieved, awareness needs to be raised throughout society. In this way, it will be significantly possible to minimize the impacts to be mitigated with existing technologies. IFAT Eurasia is a very important platform for all these issues.”
INVESTMENTS ARE LONG TERM, GOOD PLANNING IS ESSENTIAL
Pointing out that investments to be made in the sub-branches of Environmental Technologies require a high budget and that the return on investments is long-term, Namık Sarıgöl said: “For this reason, the project phase requires good planning, the operation phase requires a stable environment, and the funding of the investment requires long-term support. It is clear that the Environmental Technologies sector will provide significant benefits to our country in many areas from environmental pollution to energy, from health to strategic security, from import substitution to employment, if all processes and costs, activity planning are handled holistically and public support is felt behind the sector”.
APRIL 27-29, 2023 IS APPROACHING
IFAT Eurasia Fair, which will be held at TÜYAP Fair and Congress Center between April 27-29, 2023, will be an unmissable environment to present Turkey’s development and ambition in this field to national and international visitors and participants. “IFAT Eurasia, which is the strongest platform in our region for exhibiting new technologies and sharing information, will bring together technology manufacturers and service providers and all institutions and organizations that are parties in waste management. And it will be the most effective platform for environmental technologies! We are delighted that the demand and interest in the exhibition is increasing day by day. With December 2022 figures, IFAT Eurasia has increased its capacity by 80% compared to the previous year. This interest is a sign that the importance of environmental technologies, waste management and circular economy is increasing at all levels.”
